It has been almost one full year since the Chitauri attacked Manhattan, and the world is not ready to soon forget the tragedy that occurred. While the world always needed heroes, it was the first time that all of mankind felt the effects of some large invading force, not from within between themselves, but from without beyond the stars. Since then, the heroes of the world have really upped their game to keep humanity safe, but so, too, have the villains.
A rebel sect of Atlantian warriors recently attached New York City, and the memory of the Chitauri attack has opened the barely healed wound to bleed again. The people are frightened, and they want to know what can be done to keep them safe. In light of this recent tragedy, an organization known as the Hellfire Club, a group of wealthy, powerful, and worldly individuals, have opened their arms in a sign of charity and goodwill, with most of the world completely ignorant to the dark past that the Club hides, and the dark roots that it still spreads in the world.
Further degrading the public’s respect of the government as a whole, the recent discovery of HYDRA plants within the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division of the military, otherwise known as S.H.I.E.L.D. HYDRA nearly succeeded in their plans to rule by fear and domination, using S.H.I.E.L.D. resources to do so until it was almost too late. In light of the events, S.H.I.E.L.D. has attempted to remain strong in the face of these weeds, though distrust within might have weakened a foundation that took decades to build.
While many of these whispers from beyond have been subtle and foreign, the name of Thanos is impossible to ignore. Whoever or whatever this being is, it’s main motivation appears to be to simply rule, and rule everything. It seems that this Eternal has turned his eyes towards Earth, but how long has he been manipulating those already there to work his will? How many alliances are already planted? And is the Earth prepared to fend off such a force, or will the chaos upon be too much to withstand Thanos’ forces?
The world is hanging on the edge. Alliances are being questions. Old and new players have entered the field, and it is becoming difficult to see the way ahead. The horizons are darkened by an oncoming storm, and the way may be lost for good if they cannot find the way. Who will be the candle in the darkness, and who will be the western wind to snuff it?
